Blackburn Rovers goalscorer Joe Mason has said he’s confident that he and Tony Watt can build an effective partnership up front in the second half of the 2015-16 season.

With it being expected that Watt’s loan spell from Charlton Athletic will be made permanent shortly now that the January transfer window is open, Mason was interviewed by the BBC following the one nil victory over Blackburn and as well as talking about his frustration at being out of the side, he was looking forward to establishing himself now and he revealed that despite knowing little to nothing about our loanee, he’d been impressed with what he’d seen so far.

‘I won’t lie, I didn’t know too much about him. He took me by surprise a bit, how well he has done. We are quite similar. He’s a better ball carrier than I am – I’m more about getting into space and turns. There’s no reason why we can’t play together. We just need to, as a team, work out how to get the best out of us.’

With Mason and Watt now the likely front line leaders with Kenwyne Jones in talks with other clubs about a move this month, Mason was pleased to see him get his first start since November 21 in the game and now he wants more of the same moving forward – especially as he’s our new top scorer this year.

‘Obviously its frustrating being out the team but I can see why I was. I wasn’t playing well enough at the time. It’s given me a chance to take a step back and really try and win my place again.’

The state of the Cardiff pitch was also covered as you’d expect.

‘The pitch is awful. It’s terrible. It’s a shame really because we’re the sort of team that like to get the ball down and pass. It’s restricting us a little bit. I don’t think it’s stopped us too much but it’s not the greatest at all.’
