Kerslake Proud Of Performance

Caretaker gaffer David Kerslake has talked about how proud he is of the team’s performance against Arsenal today, despite the fact we lost via late goals again.

Just like the last game where we conceded two goals in the final ten minutes to lose out on all three points against Sunderland, we also took Arsenal right to the 88th minute before they broke the deadlock, and then secured the win with a second goal a few minutes later.

There is obviously disappointment on that score for Kerslake, but he isn’t going to dwell on that issue, he’d rather talk about how proud he was with the performance and the fact that we more than gave them a game and had it not been for the final minutes, he doesn’t a believe a point would’ve been that unfair given how we battled.

‘The players have given their all and I thought they had done enough to get a draw. We knew we would be good enough to soak the pressure, not a lot of teams can do that.’

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the stands for the game as he remains favourite for the permanent hotseat – so favourite in fact an announcement is expected very soon – Kerslake was asked if the players knew he was in attendance and whether that had any effect on their performance, however he says that the players weren’t informed that Solskjaer was in the stands, but he doesn’t know if they learnt that from other sources on the day – but in any case he knows this is how hard the team can battle and how well they can play, so he doesn’t believe it did have an impact on the day.

As for any potential appointment, he also confirmed that he believed it would be his last game in charge and all he was waiting for was an update from those above him.

He finished what could be his final action in charge and possibly his final action at the club depending on what any new man wishes to do with the backroom staff, by reiterating his praise for the players and his belief that they were more than capable of remaining in the Premiership this season.
