Cardiff City’s pre-season so far has been decidedly mixed. Two wins out in Portugal

However a young City side lost 3-0 at Weymouth and a 6-4 loss, and display of defensive ineptitude against Stockport has raised concern.

Some sloppy defending, 2 own goals and general lack of concentration and positioning saw City hit for 6 by a rampant Stockport – who were outplayed for the first half hour.

Manager Dave Jones was quick to blame the defensive unit, telling the Wales On Sunday:

‘We conceded bad goals from bad errors and that has to stop. This was our worst performance of the pre-season period. We simply did not look at all solid at the back.’

‘Darren Purse was back and played his first full game of the pre-season period. He looked rusty and needs games to sharpen up.’

However Jones was not too concerned and hoped to get these performances out of the system now and learn from them:

‘If we are going to make the mistakes we did today then this is the time to do it, two weeks before the Championship season starts.’
