Ipswich Town are reportedly preparing a big money big for Cardiff City defender Roger Johnson after two impressive seasons in the Championship for the former Wycombe Wanderers man.

Initial interest arose after Town were knocked back in a move for Gareth McAuley. They did not table a firm bid but were told that their valuation of £1m was way off the mark.

After being given a £10m transfer kitty, Jim Magilton could return for Johnson with newspaper speculation suggesting a £1.75m bid is imminent.

That would still fall well short of Dave Jones estimation, around £3m, but we also need to factor in that Johnson is probably one of the most important three players currently at the club.

Would Johnson want to go? He is established in Cardiff, and firct choice defender. We now have excellent training facilities and a new stadium on the way. Add to that, he may well be the natural successor to Darren Purse as captain and our own promotion ambitions and Ipswich Town does not seem a likely destination.

If we are to lose Roger, surely it would be to a Premiership club….?
