Former Cardiff City goalkeeper Tom Heaton is close to securing a move to Derek McInnes’ Bristol City outfit with discussions on a deal at an advanced stage. Since leaving Cardiff City, Heaton has been linked with several clubs, including Watford and Ipswich Town.

Heaton was offered a new deal by Cardiff City, but with David Marshall firmly established as first choice, Heaton’s opportunities were limited to cup games – despite his form, which was very impressive. City have snapped up former Peterborough stopper Joe Lewis as a replacement after Heaton decided to end his second spell as a Bluebird.

The former Manchester Untied man accompanied the Bristol City squad on their pre-season trip to Spain. He is now favourite to succeed former England ‘keeper David James as the Robins number one.
