Deepdale Nightmare For Battered Cardiff City

Cardiff City fans were subjected to a Deepdale horror show as Preton hammered us 6-0. It was ironic because there was a fantastic Bluebirds support while theit will undoubtedly sound bizarre – we were the better side for long periods!

All but the most blinkered Preston fan will acknowledge they were lucky to be ahead athalf time. Two deflected goals from Neil Mellor saw the Bluebirds behind while Ross McCormack wasted the lifeline we were thrown seconds before the break. The penalty miss was the turning point and as we chased the game, Preston scored a third courtesy of Parkin and the game was gone.

The most disappointing thing for City was the utter capitulation witnessed from that point on. Kennedy`s headed own goal under no pressure was a particular low point, Williamson was afforded far to much space to pick his spot and Brown given a free header.

Previously rock-steady and watertight – our defence became laughable – a joke and not a funny one either. It was complete bewilderment amongst fans of both sides and to compound the mystery – Preston`s goalkeeper was awarded man-of-the-match despite his side winning the game 6-0.

This game will unfortunately last long in the memory – automatic promotion was still a long shot and it doesn’t really change all that much providing we prove it was just a blip. I am convinced it was but mentally – we must recover – and fast!
