Michael Chopra bade a fond farewell to the City of Cardiff and the followers of Cardiff City Football Club after his big money move to join Premiership newcomers Sunderland.

The deal for Chopra met a clause in his contract and he immediately decided to talk with Black Cats manager Roy Keane. The deal was sewn up quickly but Chopra was quick to thank Cardiff City for his chance:

‘I am sad to leave, It’s been a pleasure and the fans have been fantastic to me.’

‘But I have to do what’s best for my career and my dream was always to get back into the Premiership.’

‘I love the city and I love the club.’

Chopra told the clubs official site.

Fans were understandably disappointed to see the star striker leave, but the money from the sale can be used for squad strengthening and in fairness Chopra carried us at times last season and deserves his chance to shine.

The new arrival will have to prove himself at the Stadium of Light as he is a hometown boy and childhood fan of Sunderland’s bitter rivals Newcastle United. His work rate and goals however should win over the fans and Chopra certainly has the desire and skill to succeed.

Good luck Chops…
