Ex-Rangers striker Steven Thompson has revealed his gratitude to veteran striker Kevin Campbell for his assistance this season. Thompson formed a prolific early partnership with fellow striker Michael Chopra and whilst Cardiff are going through a tough time with results and a lack of goals, the big Scot has paid tribute to his prospective replacement.

Kevin Campbell has come in for Thompson, when he was dropped after failing to register a shot on target over 3 games but Thompson revealed the help that Campbell gave him off the field.

‘Kevin has been great for me, he’s somebody who has played at the top level, somebody I respect. He talks to me, encourages me and that makes a lot of difference. He is forthcoming with advice and I listen.’ said Thompson of his teammate.

‘He would love to be playing, but is always willing to help.’

Thompson was required to play through a painful Achilles injury earlier this season due to the chronic lack of depth in the City squad. Kevin Campbell has deputised each time, but failed to make an impact on the field.

Cardiff City are reportedly considering offering another veteran striker a deal in ex-West Brom and Wigan forward Geoff Horsfield, available from Sheffield United.
