Kasper Schmeichel 8

Two crucial saves and the kicking was much more effective. Looks a class act in the making and simply loves playing football.

Tony Capaldi 7

Form much improved recently, he was solid defensively save for one moment of madness, and was much more willing to link up in attack. Right decision to shoot across keeper.

Kevin McNaughton 8

All action McNaughton was a little lost first half, but recovered each time. Second hald was a superb display of tenascity, excellent positioning and commitment.

Glenn Loovens 8

Hot a head, shoulder, knee or boot to anything that came near. A very strong performance and dominant in the air.

Roger Johnson 8

Took one for the team and put in a typical shift. He missed one or two balls, but more than made up for it by taking many from under the striker’s noses.

Stephen McPhail 7

Further improvement for McPhail, often involved yesterday and economical with his passing. He still sits too deep to have the desired impact but he was an important player.

Gavin Rae 7

Works tirelessly and drove his team-mates forward thogh he must be frustrated with some sloppy passing. Constantly involved and an effective performance.

Paul Parry 6

Not a day to excel for Parry, but he kept Argyle on their toes and worried. Perhaps 6 is a little harsh but he needed to be more involved, when he did have the ball – he was a threat.

Peter Whittingham 6

Like Parry, Whittingham had little possession but showed a few deft touches. Plenty more to come, but a decent performance on the wrong side for Whitts.

Joe Ledley 9

Just doesn’t stop. A complete performance from Ledley, energy, awareness capped by a goal in a move he started. Has developed this season, and can beat his man far more regularly. Confidence is up, and the recent hype is justified. Man of the Match.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink 4

OK when in possession, but he rarely is involved and spends too much time looking for fouls. Mobility is a real issue, and he cant make the most of possession without it. Maybe a rest is in order, this was an ineffective performance.

SUBSTITUTES:

Steve MacLean 4

Missed two great chances, and gave away possession alarmingly regularly. Looking to make an impact, this was the wrong one.

Steve Thompson

Looked up for it on his return, but had little chance. Much more than just a battering ram, surely someone will be interested during the transfer window.
