One significant problem for Cardiff City last season was the lack of proper training facilities, leading manager Dave Jones to brand his squad ‘Ragged Arse Rovers’. The players were forced to travel all over as the club struggled to find outdoor pitches at which to train.
The Treforest complex and Cardiff University premises, both utilised by the Bluebirds, had problems with waterlogging and the players were forced to train indoors coinciding with a turn for the worse in form.
The problems seemed at an end with the state-of-the-art 40-acre development which was to include six international sized training pitches as well as a special all weather surface. The facilities were to be shared with Welsh international sides and Cardiff Blues rugby club and provide world class facilities. The plans secured external funding from football bodies FIFA and UEFA, but are still awaiting planning permission leading to delays and frustration of Cardiff City FC.
Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale has now hinted that the club may go solo and built their own complex rather than wait for others to act.
