Cardiff City’s dominant centre-back Glenn Loovens last night picked up his 10th yellow card of the campaign, and with it landed an automatic 2 match ban.

He will be eligible for Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers but must then sit out matches away at Sheffield Wednesday and home to Leicester City.

Darren Purse has been waiting patiently in the wings after being axed from an underperforming side back in Decemeber. He has mostly been an unused substitute since then but has played in FAW cup and reserve team games to keep match fitness up. He will slot in alongside Roger Johnson and will hope to stamp his authority on the side and regain his place for good.

Loovens would incur a three match suspension if he collects another 5 yellow cards between now and the end of the season.
