Cardiff City’s towering centre-back Glenn Loovens has stated his intent to return from the foot inury that threatened to end his season.

Since limping off during the 2-2 draw with Southampton in March, Loovens’ season looked to be over after an x-ray revealed a fracture in his foot.

Loovens has been ever-present when fit this season and has looked impressive throughout the season. He is now aiming to play again this season after recovering faster than expected:

‘The injury is not as bad as everybody first thought and, if everything continues to go well, hopefully I will take some part in this season.’

‘I’m doing plenty of bike work at the moment and just building up my fitness. I hope to be running next week and then challenging for a place.’

Loovens’ return would be a boost for Cardiff, and he could yet feature in the end of season play-offs. Darren Purse is struggling with a calf strain so Kevin McNaughton has been partnering Roger Johnson in central defence recently.
