Cardiff City suffered a terrible start to the game when Tony Capaldi got sucked in on the City left and Steve McPhee put the home side in front in just the third minute.
For their part, Cardiff hadn’t started slowly, and conceeding spurred them on. MacLean immediately hit a good chance over from 18 yeards but the Bluebirds didn’t have to wait long for the equaliser. Gavin Rae was instrumental bursting through the Hull defence before squaring to MacLean who set up STEVE THOMPSON to calmly fire home.
Cardiff City continued their good passage and Joe Ledley saw his shot diverted onto the post, Steve MacLean looked to be held back as he pounced for the rebound.
However, despite looking the more lively, Cardiff were dealt a harsh blow after conceeding a penalty shortly before half time. Darren Purse was penalised for a foul on Man Utd frontman Frazier Campbell. Admittedly Purse was the wrong side but looked to get the ball, and it looked a little harsh.
Dean Windass, ineffective so far, blasted the penalty but Kasper Schmeichel parried the ball to safety – another good save from the Dane.
Steve MacLean saw another shot saved after good work by Ledley but just as the players switched off for half time, Hull got their un-deserving noses in front. Damien Delaney crossed, but Schmeichel failed to get distance on his punch and Garcia drove the ball back past him and into the net. A sucker blow for Cardiff as they really should have been ahead.
The second half saw a more determined and organised performance from Hull City, their keeper Boax Myhill in inspired form to keep out Thompson and a stunning save from a close range Roger Johnson bullet header.
Thommo missed the target left-footed when he should have done better, with Hull frustrating us and looking to counter attack. We dealt with some moments of danger, while Schmeichel also saved a free-kick.
Just as it looked like we’d blown all our chances, Whittingham squared to the unlikely figure of ROGER JOHNSON loitering up-field and his classy left footed chip looped over Myhill to level the scores with 10 seconds of injury time to spare. I’m not entirely convinced that’s what Johnson intended to do, but it looked great and stole a point for City – so who cares?!?
Credit to Hull, they tried to play football too and it was a breathtaking game. Both sides had chances, but Cardiff had more and deserved at least a point from a difficult venue. We showed good spirit to battle on and that makes it 3 games unbeaten.
