Cardiff City were punished for their profligacy in front of goal this afternoon after a stubborn Southampton side edged their way towards a 1-0 victory at St Mary’s Stadium.

It’s fair to say that Cardiff City dominated possession in the match, enjoying the majority of the play but the Bluebirds failed to create clear cut chances and lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

A defensive lapse allowed Idiakez to feed Stern John in the 15th minute, the striker finished with aplomb and despite anumber of half chances – Cardiff failed to claw their way back.

It was not a bad performance, but a cuttig edge was badly missing against a determined Southampton outfit but the Saints coped fairly comfortably despite Cardiff’s domination.

Full report to follow Monday.

… time to accept that the aged duo up front simply need to have it on a plate before they actually get the goals they were bought for .. Robbie can’t just rely on getting penalties .. and everyone except me seems to think McPhail and Rae are wonderful – I think they should be taken aside and told that they’re allowed to BLOODY SHOOT when they see the goalposts!!
