Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has put his faith in teenager Chris Gunter and wants the full-back to push on and cement his place in the Bluebirds first team.

Gunter became Cardiff City’s youngest International when he started Wales’ friendly against New Zealand last week. He looked assured and came out with some dredit despite the disappointing 2-2 draw.

Gunter is highly rated and won the Football League ‘Apprentice of the Year Award’ for this season, and he made several impressive performances in the past season.

It seems Dave Jones is ready to go with Gunter next season with only he and Kevin McNaughton to fill the right-back slot after the capture of Tony Capaldi, a left-back. Jones praised Gunter for his attitude and asked for the youngster to push on and impose himself in the team:

‘Next season is very big for him now and he’s got to push on. He’s put his toe in the water, now he’s got to put his whole body in.’
