Cardiff City manager Dave Jones delivered a damning verdict on Referee Uriah Rennie’s performance in the 1-0 away defeat to Bristol City.

The major incident was the sending off of Cardiff striker Steve Thompson after 15 minutes following a rash challenge on home keeper Basso. Attempting to shield the ball out of play, Basso was scythed down by a clumsy Thompson challenge – it was clearly the action of adrenaline and was fairly poor thinking from the big man with little to gain.

However, Jones was unhappy with the straight red, and Rennie in general:

‘I’ll leave it to the assessor to deliver a verdict, but I believe the Thompson incident warranted a yellow card at most.”

‘The goalkeeper deliberately put his body between our player and the ball so there was bound to be contact between them.’

‘There were a couple of other big decisions that went against us, including an injury-time penalty appeal, which left us with nothing from a game in which we played very well.’

‘I`ve had this many times with Uriah Rennie – sometimes you wonder if it`s personal. I handed him the tape of the game and told him to watch it.’

‘It wasn`t the best performance from him, it wasn`t acceptable.’

Jones is often in trouble with the F.A. over his comments regarding referees and while he attempted to restrain himself, his latest comments may again lannd him in hot water with the governing body.
