Cardiff City’s Darren Purse is still yet to sign a contract extension despite agreeing terms on a new deal some time ago.

Purse’s current contract runs out in a year, and he was vocal in his disappointment at not being offered a new one. Manager Dave Jones agreed a 1 year extension with Purse and the defender was ready to sign.

However, manager Dave Jones revealed that Purse had not yet signed the new deal, telling the Official Site:

‘Darren has been a big part of things since I arrived in the summer of 2005 and you want stability,’

‘Darren wants to stay with us, and if he agrees an extension to his contract, then that will be great for us.’

We know there have been enquiries about Purse from other quarters with Wigan Athletic, Charlton and Walford amongst those rumoured to be interested.

Manager Dave Jones can give Purse no assurances as to his first team place after impressive season’s from Roger Johnson and Glenn Loovens last year adding:

‘He knows nothing is guaranteed in terms of a place.’

Hopefully the delay has been because Purse is on holiday and unavailable to sign. We currently have a great centre-back unit for this level and Darren is a great guy to have at the club. Hopefully it will all be sorted out this week.
