Cardiff Point in Perspective

A fightback scarcely witnessed by Cardiff City fans in recent years. They turned it around with two second half goals to snatch an unlikely point and, importantly, restrict Saints to taking just one.

Dave Jones’ decision to drop Thompson didnt exactly pay off with Jason Byrne looking intelligent but failing to get into the game. It was Thommo however who got the all-important first goal to give the players the confidence they needed.

A draw is miles away from a win, they gained a point, will have learnt from the experience and crucially can go into the next game on the up, while Southampton will be cruched and need to pick themselves up again. In that way, this was a win for Cardiff and many would have settled for a point prior to the game.

Cardiff got a point, but slipped out of the play-off places after Preston won. Results however were reasonably kind to Cardiff, especially Birmingham losing at lowly Norwich and Wolverhampton losing to Coventry City.

Aside from that, Derby, Stoke and Sunderland could only draw while West Brom play tonight. Preston were the major benefactors from yesterdays results and leapfrog Cardiff, but the late point puts a completely different spin on things.

Any team can go two down, its the reaction that counts. It wasnt particularly pretty, but it was effective against a good side with an excellent home record. Well done to the players, and Dave Jones – Bluebirds am byth!!
