Cardiff City youngster Gregg Coombes has joined Oxford United for an initial 1 month period. The midfielder is highly rated and Cardiff are anxious to secure first team action for the player to help him realise his full potential.

Primarily a central midfielder, Coombes is highly versatile and has played a number of positions for his club and at youth levels for Wales.

The player has already trained with his new teammates and could make his debut tonight in a televised Conference game against Rushden & Diamonds.

Coombes joins Malvin Kamara and Jeff Whitley in leaving Ninian Park with only Peter Whittingham coming in to strengthen the midfield until James Simmonds is deemed ready for action.

Injury to Riccy Scimeca could force Jones to bring in another face in midfield but Willo Flood or Joe Ledley could cover while Kevin McNaughton filled in admirably as a makeshift midfielder against Leicester.
