Cardiff & Hull-Veteran Striker Clash

Cardiff City meet Hull City and there could be a whole host of veteran strikers on show at the KC stadium.

Dean Windass is expected to lead the line for the Tigers. The 38 year old is currently Hull’s top scorer with 7 league goals this season from 17 appearances. Windass joined Hull City, initially on loan, from Bradford City last season and his goals helped fire the struggling Yorkshire outfit away from the relegation zone.

Windass’ career has seen him enjoy two spells each at Bradford and Hull with additional spells with Middlesborough and Sheffield United.

Cardiff City have their own veteran strikers in 35 year old Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and the 32 year old Robbie Fowler. Both have had a far more illustrious career, Liverpool, Leeds United and Manchester City for Fowler, Chelsea, Middlesborough & Charlton for JFH.

However, the impact of Cardiff’s higher profile and younger stars has been far less than that of Windass.

Fowler has 4 goals (including 2 penalties) while Hasslebaink has 3, neither having had the impact they would have hoped for. Both players have appeared a little short of sharpness and while some deft touches and intelligent play has been on show, its few and far between for City.

There will certainly be plenty of striking experience on show at the KC stadium. Hasselbaink and Windass are likely to start, while Fowler (youngest of the trio) is hoping for a place on the bench. Hopefully it will be one of our boys that steps up with Purse and Loovens keeping a close watch on Windass.
