Cardiff City full-back Joe Jacobson put in a tremendous performance as Wales U21s beat their Northern Ireland counterparts yesterday.

Jacobson looked hugely impressive and scored with a sublime free-kick early in the match, giving the keeper no chance. The left foot of Jacobson had a hand in 2 more of the Welsh goals in a 4-0 win for the youngsters, one other coming from a quickly taken free-kick finding Ched Evans to head home.

Jacobson’s form comes at an opportune time for the player with both Kevin McNaughton and Joe Ledley struggling for Saturday’s match against Coventry. Jacobson has been a regular for the reserves over the past two seasons, he made his first team debut last season and spent some of this season on loan at Accrington Stanley. He could be the next youngster trusted by Dave Jones and thrown in, after Chris Gunter’s impressive few games.
