Cardiff City named an unchanged line-up for the trip to Leicester City and made a positive start to the game. It didn’t take long for Cardiff to cause a moment of panic in the Foxes box, a rebound deflacting clear with Ledley waiting.

The lively Newton screwed a glanced header woefully wide for Leicester but Cardiff were on top and went close again when good play on the left found Tony Capaldi whose cross narrowly evaded Paul Parry sliding in at the far post.

The best chance of the half however came on 21 minutes, when a free-kick from the Leicester left was not cleared and fell to Richard Stearman just 3 yards out and his volley was superbly saved by a flying Kasper Schmeichel. From suce close distance, an element of luck is inevitably involved but KS made himself huge, and got a strong hand on it – a truly world class save.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink sent a curling thunderbolt just over from a free-kick but it was not JFH’s day as a string of misplaced passes were wasted by the veteran.

Peter Whittingham cam on for the injured Parry at half time and immediately hit the bar with a 25 yard curler, the same player later seeing an on-target free-kick deflected over.

However the second half belonged to Leicester City and there were nervous times for The Bluebirds as they came under some pressure towards the end. A shot from the edge of the box evaded Schmeichel only to rebound off the post, hit the Man City keeper, and go for a corner. Schmeichel had to be alert on several occasions to deal with corners and free-kicks which caused panic in the City area and were far more dangerously delivered than our own set-pieces.

Chris Gunter cleared off the line impressively to cap a good individual performance and round off a remarkable week for the youngster who surely deserves a prolonged run in the side.

All in all, its a decent point and the second clean sheet in 3 days – we have to be happy with that and although we came under pressure, we also had our own chances and came take more heart from the result.
