Cardiff City flop Jason Byrne has left the club and moved back to his native Ireland.

Byrne joined at this time last year from Eircom league side Shelbourne, but failed to re-create the scoring form he enjoyed annually in that league.

His scoring record was impressive, and a goal on debut raised expectations in South Wales. However, Byrne failed to add to that solitary goal and with injuries, and the arrival of Robbie Fowler and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Byrne was a long way from first team action.

He has now joined Irish side Bohemians and links up with former manager Pat Fenlon.

This leaves Cardiff City with MacLean, Hasselbaink and Thompson fit and ready for action. Warren Feeney is injured and a transfer target for Swansea City, while Robbie Fowler is also out injured and Matt Green is a little too raw for Championship football.
