Cardiff City’s Reward Rosco With New Deal

Cardiff City have handed a new improved contract to hotshot striker Ross McCormack after Chairman Peter Ridsdale upheld a promise to negotiate an imporved deal if Rosco impressed in his first season.


After some good performances and 20+ goals, McCormack fulfilled that premise and also attracted admiring glances from elsewhere with Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers showing an interest.


Now, McCormack has put pen to paper on a new 4 year deal though it was his interview afterwards which will catch the eye of Cardiff City fans. McCormack told the official site:


‘Some people may think that this deal is just a means for the club to get more money for me by inserting a sell-on clause.’


‘But my intention to sign a new deal was to do my part in all of us moving forward. I didn’t want a sell-on clause inserted and there one hundred percent isn’t one in place.’



The fact that Ross felt the need (or the club felt the need to ask) to say this seems a little peculiar. A sell-on clause would normally be part of the offer made to the club, but Ross was already a Cardiff City player. I don’t know that you can insert a sell-on clause into a player contract (unless you’re Kia Joorabchian!.


In fact, far more likely is the insertion of a minimum fee release clause allowing Ross to talk to any club who met a pre-determined valuation. There was no mention of this by the cklub or Ross, but for an ambitious player such as McCormack, a get-out clause would be his preferred option should a Premiership club come knocking.


Of course, this may just be conjecture but there seemed little need for the comments at all. The position will not have changed and any offer that comes in for Ross will be considered – the only change is that until that time, the Scotsman will pick up a bigger wage each week! Cardiff City fans do not appreciate being mislead in any way, and often delve to deep looking for scandal – we do not look like re-investing all the money we’ve received from the sale of Roger Johnson as suggested last season by Ridsdale – the Bluebirds support have come to accept this.


Either way, it’s a good sign that Ross has committed his future to the club, hopefully he will be here and continue the form he showed last year.
