Cardiff City have moved to bolster the severely depleted defensive ranks after the club confirmed the worst kept secret in football as we unveiled Charlton Athletic captain as a new Bluebird.

Hudson joins David Marshall (Norwich City) and Michael Chopra (Sunderland) as new recruits for the forthcoming season. The former crystal Palace man is nearing his prime at the age of 27 and has been courted for some time by City manager Dave Jones.

Hudson and Gyepes are the only two out-and-out centre-halfs in the squad and Cardiff City will surely move to add another centre-back in the coming weeks. A fee of around £700k was agreed for the player, after Charlton expressed their desire to keep him at The Valley. Personal terms were agreed and a medical passed yesterday allowing the deal to be completed.

Hudson is already a leading contender for the Bluebirds captaincy after leading the Addicks. We are severely lacking in leadership after the departures of Darren Purse and Roger Johnson, while doubts remain over the futures and captaincy credentials of Joe ledley and Stephen McPhail who have skippered in the past.

Sorry lads he’s not a good signing for you. Yes he’s ex-palarse and he’s deserted a sinking ship, however he really is a poor defender and was a terrible captain…all he did was lose the toss of the coin at the start of a match!! Not what you want to hear I guess, especially having lost Roger Johnson to Brum, who I thought was quite dependable whenever I saw him. Good luck for next season, I think you’ll be in the mix at the end.
