Cardiff City striker Ross McCormack did NOT hand in a transfer request and merely phoned Peter Ridsdale to remind him of a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ whereby he would be allowed to speak with a Premiership club should they make an acceptable offer.
That was the jist of the Official Statement released by CCFC on Thursday evening but it seems Ridsdale reacted badly to the discussion and had no real need to speak out. Instead a day of uncertainty an un-necessary press reports broke out causing embarqassment to Dave Jones who did not know of the conversation.
McCormack’s agent Willie McKay clarified the position:
‘Ross didn’t actually submit a transfer request, he was just reminding Peter Ridsdale that he would like to be given the opportunity to talk to any interested clubs if they make a bid for him.’
‘I know there are some clubs in the Premier League interested in Ross and Ross is an ambitious person who wants to play at the highest level he can.’
Of course Ross aspires to play at the highest level, a move to the Premiership would keep him in the Scotland team plans. Additionally he looks set for a season of bench duty and out-of-position appearances with the Bluebirds – a fact which would be a huge blow to last season’s top scorer.
McCormack remains a Cardiff City player with high aspirations but recent events have done little to endear him to fans. This has so far been a messy affair poorly handled by the club with no need to create supporter unrest and make public statements. A bid of £4m is likely to see Rosco depart, but that fee may yet prove a little steep for Hull City.
