David Marshall 6

Alert in the first minute but rarely tested thereafter. Failed to deal with a few crosses and will have much tougher days to come.

Paul Quinn 8

Impressive performance from the Scotsman as he defended stoutly and was wuick to support in attack. One minor mistake was rectified by three successive meaty tackles. Look likely to become a fans favourite.

Mark Kennedy 7
A typical safe and solid performance. A few too many chipped balls forward but Kennedy was a willing support in attack and barely put a foot wrong in defence.

Anthony Gerrard 7

Settled well and looked calm and assured. Was rarely tested too much but looked good in the air and on the floor.

Mark Hudson 6

A mixed bag from the skipper who was solid at times but cannot afford his two slips or terrible back-pass against better opposition. Looked comfortable for the most part.

Joe Ledley 7
Joe was everywhere first half combining dogged determination and work-rate with a creative drive and forward momentum. A real shame when withdrawn at the interval.

Stephen McPhail 7

Forward movement, linking play and some neat footwork. This was a better performance than any last season. There is still work to be done, and he continued to play safe at times but kept things ticking in midfield and can be content.

Peter Whittingham 6

Whitts did look interested and showed some classy touches. He simply must get involved more regularly but he looked confident, fit and interested.

Ross McCormack 8 M.O.M.

Moments of pure class and industry showed why we must have him on the pitch. No other player could have shown the creativity and sheer arrogance that created 2 goals. He worked hard, never sulked and deserved his praise from the crowd.

Jay Bothroyd 7
Was bullied by two giant defenders but linked well and created chances. He did spend too much time on the floor but did the job as was required.

Michael Chopra 7
Two goals but it could have been more. Chops even looked a little short on match sharpness but the second finish was superb. Rarely got behind his men but was busy and a constant threat. Good to see him back.

Gavin Rae (on for Ledley 46`) 6
A point to prove after being left out but this was a typical gritty shift from Rae as we looked to close the game out. A speculative shot from half-way was a cheeky punt.

Chris Burke (on for Chopra 82`)

Flu prevented him starting but Burke was lively and full of tricks in his 10 minute cameo. Created two chances and won a penalty to continue his fine pre-season form.
