Cardiff City have swooped for their first signing of the summer by gaining the signature of Northern Ireland’s left-back / left-midfielder Tony Capaldi from Plymouth Argyle.

The player was available on a free transfer and has been instrumental in Plymouth’s solid season at Championship level. He has made 122 appearances for the Pilgrims and bagged 12 goals.

Capaldi was sought after by several clubs but Dave Jones has acted quickly to get his man.

Club chairman Peter Ridsdale said of the signing:

‘The signing of Tony is an important one for the club. We has to be clever and move fast to secure his services and fought off some serious competition. We are very pleased that we have managed to make the first signing of our new summer programme.’
