Cardiff City: Should Robbie Fowler Feature?

Cardiff City have lacked a goalscoring threat for this entire campaign, a problem made all the more frustrating by the world class hitman undergoing treatment on the sidelines in former Liverpool FC great Robbie Fowler.

Fowler has not played since before Christmas after having hip surgery followed by an intensive rehabilitation program. He has now returned to training, and could be ready to feature for the Bluebirds in the FA Cup Final against Portsmouth on May 17th.

Dave Jones has confirmed the veteran will not start, but he could be named on the bench. The reasoning behind this will be the vast experience Fowler has, especially in the big games and his threat in and around the 6 yard box. His predatory instincts are still sharp even if he lacks fitness.

However, which of the Cardiff City players would you leave out of the matchday squad to accomodate him? It’s a risk to include Robbie, and it will ruin the dream of one player involved in all the previous rounds.

The likely candidates are:

Paul Parry

The Welsh winger/striker leads the scoring charts but has been out recently with a hamstring trouble. He is almost certain to play.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink

The other veteran striker. Jimmy has been important linking midfield and strikers and has helped Paul Parry adapt. Surely he will start the game?

Steve Thompson

A possible candidate for the dropping. On the transfer list all season and used sparingly by Dave Jones. Thommo has not got enough goals and could be leaving at the seasons end.

A midfielder

Another strong possibility is that DJ will name 2 strikers on the bench with Scimeca or Sinclair likely to make way. Ramsey can play anywhere across the middle while Parry can cover both flanks.
