Cardiff City: Players to blame?

After Cardiff’s worst run in 7 years and 11 games without a win, we’ve heard a lot of issues that have impacted on the team’s form.

First we had a small squad, a lack of options with which to rotate the squad and give some players a break.

Then we had a build-up of injuries and unjust suspensions.

Off the field matters regarding an imminent takeover.

More recently a lack of adequate training facilities has hamperered the team’s preparation.

But its the same group of player’s who stormed to the summit of the Championship playing some scintillating football and scoring goals for fun.

Now manager Dave Jones has spoken out and questioned the individual contributions of some players:

Captain Darren Purse revealed that Jones opted against a rollicking during the hour long lock-in following defeat to Southend:

‘He said that every one of us should go home, look in the mirror, and ask ourselves the same question,’Am I doing enough?”

‘When you lose to a team bottom of the division, everyone – myself included – has to look at themselves and see what they can do to improve their performances.’

But Purse was determined not to let the worrying dip in form affect the side’s promotion aspirations and resolved to get the bid back on track by ‘rolling up their sleeves’ and getting on with it.

‘We haven’t become a bad side. We were magnificent at the start of the season – we just need a spark to change things round again. We’re still only a point away from the play-off places and, with a decent run, the top two places are not beyond us.’

Purse was named sponsor’s man of the match against Southend and put in an effective performance despite not facing too much pressure from the Southend strikers.

exactly some of the reasons we heard at Norwich and in truth a little bit from all of them are right. I dunno know where the hell we would be if it wasn’t for Earnie, just love the little man.
