Cardiff City fans saw former Bluebirds Aarson Ramsey make his second debut last night – and the talented Arsenal loanee produced a busy performance in midfield showing signs of his obvious class and ability to prove decisive in our promotion battle.

Aside from the vision, quality and creativity we know he brings, Ramsey appears to have added another aspect to his play, and he now much more resembles the ‘tank’ referred to by the Steve Thompson and the Cardiff City squad in the FA Cup Final song in 2008. ‘Little Rambo’s like a tank, scoring goals is Hasselbaink…’ Probably, the lyric was more to aid the rhyme than accurately describe Ramsey….but no more.

Among his first touches last night was a strong challenge to outmuscle a Reading attackers, allowing Rambo to win possession, turn and calmly pick out a team-mate. It was a theme that continued through the match, with the youngster showing much more strength than in his previous spell – possibly as a result of extra weights/strength training while unable to train due to his broken leg.

His tackling was strong, he did well shoulder-to-shoulder and made a couple of last ditch covering tackles to suggest he is much more than the gifted playmaker we saw glimpses of last time.

Another who would agree with the above was last night’s match official Gavin Ward. Ramsey flattened the referee midway through the second half when the offcial found himself in the way of Ramsey’s turn, finding himselff flat on the floor and needed treatment from City’s physio Sean Connelly before he could continue.

Hopefully, Ramsey can continue his return to full fitness and form with the Bluebirds and build on last night’s promising performance.
