Cardiff City Fans Indifferent To Kenny Miller Exit

Cardiff City agreed to let last years main striker Kenny Miller move on recently as the Scottish International secured a lucrative deal with the Vancouver Whitecaps. It was an unexpected departure after Mackay puller out all the stops to bring Miller to Cardiff from Turkey and despite an average and somewhat frustrating season – Miller was a very important player for City and always played when available.

Since Miller departed, City have moved to sign Etien Velikonja and Heidar Helguson as other striking option to supplement Joe Mason. Robert Earnshaw and the currently injured Rudy Gestede are also hoping to feature but will be largely back-up players if required. Helguson is the most like-for-like replacement for Miller, although very different in style – Helguson is better suited to the role we asked of Miller last term.

Following Miller’s departure, Vital Cardiff City ran a fans poll to gauge the mood amongst the supporters regarding Miller and see if people thought he would be missed. The result was largely of the view that we have alternative options and will not be hurt by losing the proven goalscorer.

Roughly two thirds of voters believe he wont be missed, while just over a quarter think we may live to regret letting the former Rangers man leave. It seems likely that Miller would have found life much easier when played as part of a two man attack, indeed, some of his best games came when alongside Rudy Gestede – despite the Frenchman’s inexperience.

It is not yet clear whether Malky is intending to play two up-front, with Helguson, Mason and Velikonja competing for the places. However, the (apparently) imminent arrival of Craig Bellamy will also be a major factor. The Welshman makes no secret of his preference to play in attack – but is often utilised in a wide attacking role where he has more space. Either way, Kenny Miller is no longer part of the equation, though we wish him well in his new ventures.
