Cardiff City have been drawn in the first round of the Carling Cup this morning against The Seagulls of Brighton.

The game will be played the third week in August.

No Premiership teams enter the draw until the second round meaning that this draw includes only the 72 football league teams. The draw is split into two sections with Cardiff City being in the Southern section.

The league cup has not been frindly to Cardiff in recent years and last season’s exit was slightly embarassing for the club. The Bluebirds were outplayed and defeated 2-0 by Barnet despite fielding a number of high profile players. First team regulars Ledley, Parry, Johnson and Gunter all took part but some slack defensive play allowed Tresor Kandol to net twice for the league 2 side.
