Cardiff City entertain Leeds United tonight and whilst the Whites are currently on a 12 match unbeaten streak, the Blubirds will be boosted by the realisation that they, like us, have serious defensive frailties that suggests opposition teams will always get some chances.

During that 12 match run (6 win, 6 victories) – Leeds United have kept only two clean sheets and conceded a worrying/encouraging 16 goals. In our last 12 games, we’ve conceded an alarming 18 goals but that figure is somewhat skewed by the 7 goals in the previous 2 fixtures and at least suggests our defence is little worse than Leeds’ – despite their label as the form team, and us as the current whipping boys of the division.

Ironically, the two Leeds clean sheets came in 2 of their most difficult encounters, a 2-0 home win over leaders QPR and a difficult away trip (0-0) away at Reading.

Overall they have conceded 17 on the road (the same as QPR all season), and a hefy 24 from 13 at home. Thats an average of almost 2 goals conceded per game! (We’ve conceded 9 at home, and 20 away – including 7 in 2 games).

That should give cause for optimism for the Bluebirds who have found goals difficult to come by as teams sit back, deny us space and look to counter and challenge our ailing defense. However, with Leeds Utd also suffering defensive lapses – we ought to be confident of taking a chance or two when they come along.

Either way, with two strong attack-minded teams, and two equally leaky defenses – tonight’s should be an exciting encounter and we should be treated to some goals.
