Cardiff City Boss Jones Shifts The Burden

Cardiff City manager Dave Jones has heaped pressure onto his Chairman Peter Ridsdale by openly stating his desire to bring in three new faces before the Bluebirds embark on the new season.

Jones’ comments appear to transfer the blame solely to his Chairman should we fail to make the necessary additions and would appear foolish if this does not now happen. It seems unlikely that Jones would publically make such demands if he knew our financial situation to prohibit it – that means Ridsdale would not be able to use such an arguement.

Jones told the SW Echo:

“I want three more players in and the chairman knows who there are. If I can bring three in, then Cardiff City will have one heck of a squad for the new season.”

“I don`t want to lose the three I have asked for. Does the chairman have the courage to go for it?”

“We have to stop selling our best players at some stage. I can`t keep building if we keep selling.”

Most likely is that this is a carefully orchestrated comment, made with the approval of Peter Ridsdale. The two have a good working relationship and have always staunchly supported one another. Undoubtedly they have discussed options and targets and will endeavor, within reason, to fulfil that.

Either way, Jones appears to have distances himself from the situation and hopefully that means he is confident of landing his men. Cardiff City fans are not used to hearing such statements of intent, more usual is – ‘we have to work within our budget’ or ‘there are players we like, but their clubs wont let them go’.

Are the two reading from the same page? It would be crazy now if we sold Mccormack… Many fans will start to think these ‘three players’ will be brought in following a major sale – is this Ridsdale’s way of justifying a sale?
