Cardiff City manager Dave Jones was pleased with his side after a battling win over a lacklustre Sheffield United team. Paul Parry got the goal but Cardiff’s dominanace deserved a more emphatic scoreline. Jones was just pleased with the performance and the points:

‘It was a hard fought victory, it was always going to be tough today and the players rose to the occasion and put in a performance that was worthy of a win.’

‘The goal was very well worked and Peter Whittingham’s reverse pass to Paul Parry for the goal was superb.’

‘We have come in for a lot of flak recently but today we deserve praise for an excellent performance. The three points today were important because the other sides around us have also won.’

Sheffield United manager Bryan Robson paid tribute to Cardiff City’s defenders but blamed his side’s early profligacy early on for his side’s defeat:

‘Once Cardiff went ahead they defended very well to keep us out and our performance particularly in the second half became very scrappy.’

‘We have put teams under pressure in the past after going behind but Cardiff were excellent in defence and they have some very good players.’
