Birmingham dismiss Bluebirds threat

Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce has brushed off the threat from Cardiff City this weekend and expets his side to come out triumphant.

The Blues regained Championship top-spot in midweek after a 1-0 win over Leeds United. The performance was lacklustre and the result far from emphatic whilst the midlands club have been far from top form recently losing to lowly Southend and Hull City in recent weeks.

Whilst they undoubtedly possess a talented squad including former Cardiff striker Cameron Jerome, former target Rowan Vine as well as the influential McSheffrey and Clemence, Cardiff City have proved their staying power after rallying in style following a mid-season slump.

When questioned about the prospect of facing the leagues top scorer and in-form player, Bruce showed a lack of respect for the striker (who has scored as many as Bentner, Jerome and DJ Campbell combined!) saying:

‘He’s okay. He’s just another striker, no different to any other.’

A stance that will suit Chopra just fine. He has 9 goals in 6 games now and is a player in fine form. Given any time or space, he will punish teams at this level and Bruce’s dismissal of his talents will only spur on the hitman.

For such a confident man, Bruce made a suprise attempt to get the fans behind his team ahead of the game:

‘There seems to be an air around this club that we have the divine right to be leading this division by ten points. Why is that?’

‘For the match against Cardiff I just hope people get behind the team.’

Write off the resurgent Chopra and Co. at your peril.

I’ve looked everywhere I can for these supposed ‘quotes’ from Steve Bruce to noavail. Still, never let the truth get in the way of some tub thumping hey?
