Cardiff City have some returning players to consider for the long trip North to Barnsley.

Glenn Loovens came through the midweek game unscathed and should take his place alongside Johnson after shaking off a foot problem. Darren Purse is also in contention and played for the reserves midweek though a place on the bench is all he can hope for.

Kevin McNaughton limped off against West Brom. It looked like cramp but the Scotsman had felt his hamstring tighten – taking training lightly this week. If unfit, Chris Gunter will start at right-back.

Steve Thompson is available after missing the Carling Cup win with a stomach bug – he will start on the bench unless Jones opts to use Parry as a makeshift striker again.

Riccardo Scimeca (groin) and Steve MacLean (ankle) are long term absentees.

Barnsley have options in defence with the return of skipper Paul Reid and experienced fullback Rob Kozluk. Fellow defender Bobby Hassell is definately out after knee surgery.

Dominik Werling is suspended for the game after being sent off in the 3-2 win over Southampton.

Jemal Campbell-Ryce is expected to keep his place confining Martin Devaney to the bench again.

Striker Paul Hayes left the club for Scunthorpe this week while Anderson Da Silva returned to parent club Everton although Barnsley are trying to bring him back for an extended stay.
