Another Unpaid CCFC Bill – This time Quinn

Cardiff City have been hit by yet another financial hammer blow with the revelation that yet another football related bill remains unpaid, keeping the transfer embargo stranglehold on the club.

With the accounts now filed, it had been thought that only an outstanding payment to Charlton Athletic for Mark Hudson’s transfer was keeping the embargo in place. Now however, Motherwell have released a statement on their official site that reads:

“The Board have been very patient with Cardiff given the financial pressures they have faced and the need for clubs to work together to ensure we can all navigate an extremely testing financial environment for the game.”

“However the interests of our shareholders, employees and fans are being jeopardised by the failure of Cardiff City to pay the debt that they have outstanding.”

“We have made clear to the Board of Cardiff that we are left with no option but to pursue every possible avenue of recourse to secure our own club’s interests. We hope that this matter can be resolved in an orderly manner.”

It’s somewhat embarassing that other clubs should be forced to wait for our payments, causing severe problems and knock-on effects to how other clubs can prepare and manage their own finances. This is yet another calamitous outsome directly associated with Peter Ridsdale’s apparently reckless management of our finances. We are behind on the payments for Michael Chopra, Mark Hudson and now Paul Quinn which of course menas we should not have bought them and placed ourselves in this position – even worse that we should accrue horrendous interest charges to Ray Ranson etc.

It’s clear that there are deep running problems at the club and the significant progress made under the new board still has some way to go to undo the awful financial mess built up through the Sam Hammam and Peter Ridsdale eras.

Neither Quinn or Hudson particularly impressed, and neither would have made it to a fans select XI, though Jones remained a stalwart fan of Hudson, he often opted to omit Quinn in favour of Matthews, McNaughton with Darcy Blake also providing cover.

It seems ever more likely that player sales are inevitable to help us through this time. Even fans can surely see the sense behind such a decision, we must start the season on an even keel, with wages paid on time, tax up to date and no transfer embargo.
