Cardiff City striker Steve Thompson has now gone a massive 934 minutes without finding the net in a league game for the Bluebirds.

Thats over 15 hours of Championship football without a goal, a particularly worrying statistic given Thompson’s position as a forward. Initially brought to the club in place of Alan lee, who ironically was thought not to score often enough, Thompson works hard and creates chances for others.

However, every striker needs goals and although Thompson is often used as a substitute, he does not contribute enough. A brief purple patch this season saw his goal tally raise dramatically, but a sending off against Bristol City curtailed that run and Thommo hasn’t scored since. The 11th of December was the last goal, the winner against Blackpool in a 1-0 win for the Bluebirds, however, 20 appearances later we wtill await the next one.

Cup games have not been taken into account in the 934 minutes, Thompson did notch a goal against Hereford United in the fourth round, but that was a penalty and he failed to find the net against Wolves, Middlesbrough or Barnsley.

Thompson only scored 6 goals last season, and was placed on the transfer list. He remains on it and looks almost certain to leave Ninian Park in the summer, barring a dramatic change in form or some kind of bizarre holiday accident, possibly involving a banana boat or other such unlikely object!
