Cardiff City again conceded a disappointing late equaliser but it was a more enthusiastic and promising performance from the Bluebirds, still missing some important players.
Jay Bothroyd (virus) and Chris Burke (rib)were the notable absentees from our ‘bset’ XI while Adam Matthews was also recalled in place of Paul Quinn. Chopra came in for Jay while teenager Aaron Wildig did well in midfield.
On an icy pitch, and incredibly difficult conditions – it was a surprisingly open game. Alsough more reminiscent of FAW cup quality than FA, it was entertaining nonetheless and both teams duly tried to invoke a short passing game.
Although Bristol City hit the post, I though Cardiff City were the better team, more compact and committed though we failed to create clear cut chances. David Clarkson of Bristol City was woeful, while Ledley looked far more comfortable than of late.
Gavin Rae was withdrawn in the first-half to be replaced by Taiwo, the former Daggers man did pretty well and added to the midfield – an unlikely statement to make given his previous performances. A Wildig chipshot, and Chopra effort were City’s best chances while McCormack was unlucky to be adjudged offside when clean through.
The introduction of Warren Feeney in the second half changed the game, although his 2 efforts were both scuffed he relished the bobbly pitch and showed his usual determination and work-rate. One such chase creeated the opening goal when he followed BCFC keeper Dean Gerken and pressured his clearance on the Cardiff right, the scuffed effort fell straight to Chopra who curled a lovely effort straight in from 30 yards and virtually the touchline.
Bristol applied some pressure but were largely kept out by the City defence and safe hands of David Marshall. However, in the last minute a pull-back found Nicky Maynard to square for the onrushing Cardiff City fan Gavin Williams, a good low finish from 20 yards but no-one was close enough to stop the shot.
