Would the Real Paul Parry – Please Stand Up?

Cardiff City winger Paul Parry made it an hour through Saturday`s game against Ipswich and if any Bluebirds fan can remember a meaningful contribution, or example of good play – I`d be surprised. You will rarely find criticism of one player on this website but after Saturday I find myself asking: What on earth has happened to Paul Parry???


This season, Parry has spent more time in his favoured left wing position. He is one of few players with genuine pace in our squad and has always been happy with the ball at his feet. Not so long ago, he was terrorising players with pace, trickery and a positive attitude even if the final ball was lacking. Now however, he looks one-paced, negative and short of any kind of form.


When Parry retired from Internationals with Wales, many were disappointed. He was in great form and was undoubtedly an asset to the National squad. Now however, the idea of Parry playing for his country is almost laughable. He was completely outthought and outfought by Ipswich full-back Simons – who enjoyed an excellent game against Parry.


Is Parry struggling with injury? He had been playing with pain-killing injections in his knee last month but if he`s still not right – why is he playing? Surely the likes of Ledley, Whittingham or even QUINCY should feature on the left? Parry was beaten time and time again, looking extremely limited. From one such occasion, he tried to beat Simons only to be robbed. He hopped around for a few moments as Ipswich broke and ultimately scored their second goal.


An on-song Parry causes problems for any defence, even Arsenal at times. The trouble is, we aren`t seeing anything like an on-form Paul Parry but he is still in the starting line-up. Frankly, it would be staggering if he were included next week in what could yet be our last action of the season if we lose to Sheffield Wednesday.
