Virtual Transfer Embargo On Cardiff City !

It`s often the way in football but Cardiff City seem able to only attract interest in the players we`d most like to keep with Roger Johnson and Ross McCormack the most pertinent examples this season and the likes of Earnshaw, Gabbidon, Kavanagh, McAnuff et al providing recent historical cases.

The problem is, we have a number of squad members who would be allowed, if not encouraged to leave. That would free up the wage bill and pave the way for new signings while any transfer fees received could be re-invested. Such players include Tony Capaldi, Stephen McPhail, Peter Whittingham, Miguel Comminges, Gavin Rae, Paul Parry and possibly Mark Kennedy. Every single one of those players has done enough to suggest they have a future at this level with all but Comminges extremely experienced Championship campaigners.

However, we seem unable to attract interest from the right parties. Surely the newly promoted clubs (e.g. Scunthorpe United, Peterborough) or lower-mid table teams (Blackpool, Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers) would like to sign a player of Capaldi`s or Parry`s calibre?

It seems however, that most clubs would be unable to meet the wage demands of most of our squad and are unlikely to bring someone in on higher wages and risk upsetting other squad members. Each of the players mentioned have been capped Internationally and whilst they are not exactly surplus to requirements in our small squad – we could really do with two or three moving on. Tony Capaldi recently stated he would move for regular first team football – but so far no offers have been forthcoming.

We are sure to be missing out on transfer targets as we must wait, the Bluebirds simply cannot afford to risk it and face taking extra players’ wages into the new season. One full-back will surely depart in the next few weeks, while a midfielder would also ideally leave to allow for new signings. It`s really a case of the sooner the better for Cardiff City but as yet there has been little in the way of rumours, never mind definitive moves for our players. Until there are, don`t hold your breath on potential signings!!!
