Cardiff City’s flying left winger Paul Parry look set to miss the Swansea City clash as he is struggling with a knee injury meaning Dave Jones will have a tricky dilemma ahead of the game with a number of like-for-like options available to the gaffer.

Quincy Owusu-Abeyie has waited patiently for his chance, arriving amid a great deal of hope and expectation he has rarely features though has shown slimpses of promise during a couple of substitute appearances. He is an attacking option on the left of midfield, but excelled in that role for Birmingham City.

Peter Whittingham is another player hoping for the nod to play in his favoured left wing berth. However, the former Aston Villa man has been disappointing of late and contributed little. He is a luxurey player and one not suited to the intense derby atmosphere.

Ross McCormack would love and possibly deserve to start the game in attack after a great personal week for the Scot. He played in both Scotland games and impressed, bagging a goal and man-of-the-match award against Iceland. However, with Chopra in direct competition, Rosco could be used again in a midfield role, given freedom to roam and cut in onto his dangerous right foot.

The other option for Cardiff CIty, and a hugely unpoular one would be the inclusion of Stephen McPhail in midfield – the out-of-form Irishman has been extremely disappointing this season and was sent off in BOTH games against the Jacks this season. However, his inclusion alongside Gavin Rae would allow Joe Ledley to move to the left, a position he has filled for most of his career.

Of those players, McCormack undoubtedly deserves to start the game. If that has to be on the left, so be it – he has probably done enough to surpass Chopra (struggling with a heel problem) and start up-front but if Jones sticks with Chops and Jay – Rosco must play on the wing. After that, I’d argue for the inclusion of Quincy – although his first start being against Swansea City is not ideal and would be a baptism of fire!

Maybe Dave Jones would chage the hapit of a lifetime and switch to 4-3-3 allowing Ledley, Rae and either Scimeca/McPhail to start and Chops/Jay/Rosco up top – but if you think Jones will go for that – you’d be a very brave man (or woman) to bet! A poll is open to that effect on the right, but we all know the notion will not linger long in Dave Jones’s head..>>!
