Vital Cardiff City this morning ran a story about Darren Purse, and the fact that despite a solid display against the Swans – he is likely to lose his place as Gyepes returns… see here.

It seems the situation has not been lost on Purse who has been left quietly fuming at the silence from the club regarding the future of a player who has been a great club servant for a number of years.

Despite rarely playing in the last two seasons, Purse would like to stay and his performance early in the season – and again on Sunday suggests he is still a useful player at this level. To play so well, against a good Swansea City side is a testiment to Purse given his distinct lack of first team football over the past months.

It’s fair to say Purse has been extremely proffessional and p[atient to this point but he is hurt and bitterly disappointed and has spoken out to the South Wales Echo:

“Nobody has had the decency to even talk to me about my future. I think I have been an excellent ambassador for the club as captain.”

“I took it very seriously but I feel let down that nobody has said a word to me. I think I`ve deserved more than that.”

It just leaves a sour taste in your mouth when you`re still the club captain and not a word is said.”

Purse’s comments are likely to upset Bluebirds bosses including manager Dave Jones who has criticised Purse for a previous outburst. The defender once reacted badly to his manager following a sloppy goal conceded away at Plymouth Argyle when Emile Mpenza brushed off Purse to score. Dave Jones blamed his captain but Purse was upset that his comments were not made ‘in-house’ – a jibe that Dave Jones has been quick to point out in the past when Purse has spoken out in the press.

Darren is bitterly dissappointed and I think many fans will have the utmost respect and sympathy for him. I think we all know the situation with darren, he stays until the end of the season where we re-assess depending on the league for next season. He’s a great guy to have around the place and its unfortunate this has made the press.

It seems likely that Purse and Jones do not get on all that well – surely he could have asked for clarification on his future? Dave Jones has previously stated his door is open to all those players not in the side and Darren Purse certainly qualifies as one of those. Give him another year Jonesy!
