Poor poor Cardiff

It was a frustrating and poor performance for the Bluebirds as they drew 2-2 with Ipswich Town over the weekend. After going ahead twice, Cardiff conceded two sloppy goals at home both arising from indecision at corners although the Cardiff defence played pretty well.

Most of the problems stemmed from a poor midfield display with Ledley anonimous and Kamara off the pace. Scimeca was reliable although failed to dominate while McNaughton looked comfortable out-of-position and the most likely to create a goal.

Kevin Campbell started up front and again failed to make an impression, he was always a yard too slow and despite being victimised somewhat by a picky referee he was not up to standard. It seems Campbell is being asked to do a job he has never done before in acting as the target man, in his glory days he was a big man with pace but that has sadly gone now and he wins far less in the air than you’d expect. Michael Chopra looks bereft of confidence and needs a tap-in to lift him, his insghful runs and direct incisions were missing as the front 6 underperformed.

Passes went astray as possession was surrendered all too easily, not for the want of trying – Cardiff failed to create any clear openings and desperately miss the flair and passing of Parry and McPhail.

The goal drought (500 minutes worth without a goal) is now over but it was a defender who broke it and a dodgy penalty which doesnt indicate that the scoring touch is back.

What can we do? Sit and wait for players to return and the January window to open to get some new faces in. We’re missing key players but the fans can still be the extra man and add the determination we need to see out the rough patch and return to winning ways.
