Cardiff City have had two of our Scottish stars called up to the join George Burley’s squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against the Netherlands and Iceland.

With their striking options depleted by injuries, a call-up for Ross McCormack looked likely though he will have been sweating on his place after being dropped from the Bluebirds starting XI. Gavin Rae has also been give the nod and will have been delighted to force his way in after a good season to date.

Defender Kevin McNaughton has not been given a call and continues his unlucky relationship with the National side. One of our most impressive and consistent players over the past seasons, McNaughton has received several call-ups only for injuries to strike and deny him a chance. Aside from his quality, he is also young and has great versatility to add.

Chris Burke is another Bluebird not in the side, but will hope to re-vitalise his International aspirations after a switch to Cardiff City from Rangers.

All four Bluebirds players have International experience and realistic ambitions of more caps to come. Incidentally, all four have been out of the Cardiff City team of late with Rae, McCormack and Burke relegated to the bench while McNaughton has been suffering a hamstring/back niggle.
