After yet another turbulent summer, this time punctuated with a managerial departure and complete squad rebuild, Cardiff City are preparing to kick-off the 2011/12 season in exactly one week having completed pre-season with a 0-0 draw with Parma.

The new season was due to begin next Saturday, less than a week away but our opening fixture was moved to accomodate TV coverage and will instead take place next Sunday – one week from today.

Cardiff City have arguably the toughest fixture of the entire season for the curtain-raiser, facing a difficult trip to play newly relegated West Ham United at Upton Park. It remains to be seen whether it will be an advantage to face the Hammers before either side has any momentum.

Cardiff have a new look side, and have struggled for goals. West Ham have been hit hard by their surprise relegation, but are certainly among the favourites for promotion and will surely be there or thereabouts.

Following a number of near misses on promotion under Dave Jones, Bluebirds fans are now ready for a more consolidatory season but there has been a clear sign of relief among supporters and many are looking forward to the coming season with a renewed sense of optimism and hope.
