OGS – Abu Dhabi Cancellation Not Punishment

The Cardiff squad were meant to be heading off to Abu Dhabi this week for some warm weather training, this was cancelled after the weekend humiliation against Hull.

OGS has insisted that the cancellation of this trip isn’t being done out of punishment though.

The squad should have flown out to the Middle East on Sunday but in the wake of the 4-0 defeat to Hull, which was our worse home defeat since we lost to Cambridge by the same scoreline in 2000, this trip was scrapped with the players staying in Wales.

Staying and training here as a group is something that OGS says will be better but is quoted on sky sports as saying it’s not punishment.

‘We are not going away.

‘We are staying here. I cancelled it after the game.

‘It is not punishment. We want to keep everyone together as a group. We need to regroup and to train.’

In the immediate aftermath of the defeat the manager didn’t have any positives, having had a bit of time to reflect he does now think that he can not that there are many. It’s going to be hard to stay in the Premier League again but the main positive was the amount of chances we created, and hard, though.

The problem is when you’ve failed to score in 15 games, like we have, it’s easy to see where your problems lie.

As for the cancellation of the Abu Dhabi training trip I do think that, whatever OGS says, this is in someway punishment for the squad as it would still ‘keep everyone together as a group’ and allow them to ‘regroup and to train’ in the Middle East.

It might have set the wrong example, after that defeat, is he’d taken the squad away to warmer climes and seen growing frustrations from the stands stretched to breaking point if they’d sauntered off to the sun.
