Manager quotes after Preston

Speaking after the 2-1 loss to Preston Cardiff manager Dave Jones said:

‘We will get over this loss. It’s how you respond to it that matters, how you keep fighting, learning and pushing on.There are going to be days when it just doesn’t go for you’.

Jones appeared disappointed with some of the refereeing decisions and was not happy with Glenn Loovens sending off:

‘Glenn has been punished for being stronger than their boy. It was shoulder to shoulder. Anywhere else on the pitch, as the ref said, he wouldn’t have given a caution.

‘There were two sendings-off that I didn’t think should have really happened. We are going to make mistakes, we’re a young side. So long as we bounce back from it and learn from it, we can push on’.


‘There are lots of things for us to work on without worrying about what officials have done or have not done. That’s where our leaning curve has to come in.When it was 1-1, we could have got our noses in front. They got in front and it became an uphill battle from there.

‘But we are up there on merit and because we have one loss it doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. For me, Preston turned it into a cup final. There are going to come days when it just doesn’t come for you’.

Preston manager Paul Simpson was predictably pleased:

‘I’m very satisfied, relieved, chuffed for everybody.’

He reserved special praise for matchwinning substitute Agyemang after his inspired tactical substitution at half time saying this of his powerful striker:

‘There are gambles that sometimes work for you. I felt we needed to do something.’

‘Patrick has got pace, strength and power. On his day he is frightening.’


The clear message from DJ was that the players will get over this and learn from it, whilst obviously a disappointment, it’s not the end of the world by any means.
